UNIT 1: SOCIETY and IDENTITY

Migrants are persons who leaves their country to look for work or to have a better social life.  
A refugee is someone who is running away from war or persecution.
Some of the difficulties they might face during their JOURNEY are:
  • over-crowdedness
  • unhealthy, sanitary conditions
  • danger
  • no food or drink
  • climatic conditions (i.e. tempests, extreme cold/hot environment)
  • mental and physical illnesses
  • possibility of  catching/transmitting contagious diseases


Some of the difficulties they could face when they arrive are:

  • unwelcoming
  • closed-mindedness (i.e. prejudices, racism, discrimination)
  • language barriers (i.e. lack of communication)
  • struggle for integration (i.e. religious and cultural differences)
  • lack of job opportunities or low-paid wages (i.e. low standard of living)
  • lack of housing
  • illegal residency
  • loneliness / solitude
  • lack of first needs
