UNIT 1: SOCIETY and IDENTITY
Migrants are persons who leaves their
country to look for work or to have a better social life.
A refugee is someone who is running away from war or
persecution.
Some of the
difficulties they might face during their JOURNEY are:
- over-crowdedness
- unhealthy, sanitary conditions
- danger
- no food or drink
- climatic conditions (i.e. tempests, extreme cold/hot environment)
- mental and physical illnesses
- possibility of catching/transmitting contagious diseases
Some of the difficulties they could face when they
arrive are:
- unwelcoming
- closed-mindedness (i.e. prejudices, racism, discrimination)
- language barriers (i.e. lack of communication)
- struggle for integration (i.e. religious and cultural differences)
- lack of job opportunities or low-paid wages (i.e. low standard of living)
- lack of housing
- illegal residency
- loneliness / solitude
- lack of first needs
